Legacy Blast Returns July 2 to Celebrate America’s 250th with Fireworks, Music, and Family Activities

Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation (LSPR), in partnership with the City of Lee’s Summit, invites the community to Legacy Blast, a free Independence Day celebration on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Legacy Park.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m., with a full evening of entertainment leading up to a choreographed fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. The show will be synchronized to music and simulcast on 94.9 KCMO.

Event Highlights

  • Free admission to the park
  • Fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., choreographed to music
  • Live DJ entertainment
  • Food trucks and concession vendors (available for purchase)
  • Activities for children ages 12 and under

Event Timing and Capacity

  • Gates open at 5:00 p.m.
  • Gates close at 9:00 p.m., or earlier if parking reaches capacity
  • In recent years, the park has reached capacity as early as 8:15 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure parking and enjoy pre-event activities.

Rain Date

In the event of inclement weather, Legacy Blast will be rescheduled to Sunday, July 5, 2026.

Traffic, Navigation and Parking

Significant traffic congestion is expected before and after the event. Attendees should plan accordingly:

  • Before the fireworks show, Blackwell will be closed at Colbern and at the roundabout to clear the roadway for the exit if necessary.
  • Overflow traffic will be directed out of the area.
  • Expect lengthy delays before and after the event in the areas of NE Colbern Road, NE Scruggs, NE Langsford, and NE Blackwell Parkway.
  • Allow yourself plenty of time for your drive and be patient and respectful! Leave the house early!!!!
  • Parking illegally in and around Legacy Park neighborhoods and in non-designated parking areas at Legacy Park is not allowed.
  • Parking on private property and sidewalks is not allowed. Violators could be ticketed and/or towed
  • Parking spaces cannot be reserved for others or used to set up a tailgate.

Other Tips & FAQ

  • LSPR Parks and Venues are smoke-free.
  • No grills, alcohol, or fireworks will be permitted in the venues.
  • Bring blankets and chairs to get the best view of the show outside of your car.
  • Tune into 94.9 to enjoy the show!
