New Trails Coming to Legacy Park from Partnership with Urban Trail Company

Image of LS Parks and Rec logo and Urban Trail Co. logo. The City of Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with local non-profit Urban Trail Co., is bringing new trails to Legacy Park. These natural-surface, single-track trails for mountain biking, hiking, and trail running will be located along the northern and eastern portion of Legacy Park.

Urban Trail Co. volunteers began trail layout in January 2019, with trail construction beginning in early 2019. The trail, which is projected to be approximately six miles long when complete, is planned to be beginner-friendly for mountain biking as well as appealing for hikers and runners. "Though this trail will provide a great experience for kids or beginning mountain bikers, the park's topography offers plenty of opportunity for interesting features and elevation change," Todd Posson, Urban Trail Co. volunteer trail builder, said.

Urban Trail Co., a Kansas City-based non-profit organization, has designed and built trails with all-volunteer efforts in parks across the metro for more than fifteen years. "We're very grateful to the City of Lee's Summit for welcoming trails," Posson said, "And for inviting us to participate in creating this natural amenity."

“Our community identified natural-surface trails as an important amenity in our 2015 revised strategic plan,” Joe Snook, Administrator for Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation, said. “We are excited to partner with the Urban Trail Co. on the addition of this natural-surface trail at Legacy Park.”

Community volunteers are welcome to participate in the trail building efforts. To learn more about trail volunteerism, visit urbantrailco.com/volunteer.
