The Lee’s Summit Arts Council was established by the City of Lee’s Summit on January 1, 2002 to be a standing committee comprised of citizens and professionals established primarily to coordinate efforts between agencies and educate the public regarding community arts opportunities.
The function of the Council will be to “act as a clearinghouse for information on opportunities for the arts existing in the community; establish goals for increasing focus on exposure to the Arts (education, programs, festivals, etc.); and, organize and coordinate with agencies or independently for Arts programming”.
Our MISSION
The LS Arts Council promotes, develops, strengthens and advocates for the arts in Lee’s Summit.
The Council is recognized for its success in cultivating arts of excellence, enhancing the quality of life of our citizens, and advancing economic and arts development through the arts in Lee’s Summit.
The Council will support and collaborate with Lee’s Summit arts organizations, artists, arts educators, and independent art programs to increase the public’s awareness, opportunities, and participation in the Arts. The Council identifies the cultural arts to include, but does not limit it to, performing arts, music, visual arts, multimedia arts, literary arts, arts and crafts, folk art, and historic architecture/sites.
Dr. Jetinder Singh Exhibition at the Gamber Center
The Lee’s Summit Arts Council presents an exhibition of works by Dr. Jetinder Singh at the Gamber Center with the Opening Reception set for Thursday, January 21 at 6:30pm. The opening event will feature conversation with the artist and light refreshments.
Dr. Singh’s artwork has been shown over the last three year’s throughout Kansas City. He works in a variety of different mediums utilizing acrylics, oils, glass, clay, pencil, and pen & ink. Jetinder’s art is a medium towards relaxation and he strives to create pieces that have a social commentary. His objective is to have art that is useful in helping the community, not just a colorful wall hanging. He works as a Physician Hospitalist with Midwest Hospital Specialists. Dr. Singh’s art will be on exhibit through April 15, 2010.
Exhibit hours at the Gamber Center will be Monday - Thursday: 6am - 9pm, Friday: 6am - 5pm, Saturday: 9am - 5pm and Sunday: Noon - 4pm. The Gamber Center is located at 4 SE Independence Avenue in Lee’s Summit just off 291 Highway and 2nd Street. For more information call 816.969.1500

The LSAC needs volunteers to take digital photographs at LSAC events, and other Lee’s Summit cultural art events. Selected photographs will be posted to our website, submitted to the media, and used on public relations materials. This would be great experience for someone interested in entering the photo journalism field. If you are interested and would like more information, please contact Kerrie Nichols

LSARTS Mini-Grant Opportunities!
The Lee’s Summit Arts Council (LSAC) appreciates the valuable arts programs and services provided by our local arts organizations and citizens. To support the cultural arts in our community, the LSAC will accept requests for financial support up to $1,000. All requests are subject to the LSAC’s approval.
The following will be considered: community impact, demonstrated need for support, creative use of funds, artistic quality, ability to administer and implement project, and the diversity of population served.
Eligibility:
- Support funds must be used for cultural art events/programs that take place in Lee’s Summit.
- Individuals or organizations receiving financial support must provide a post event report to include:
- A written report that includes a final overall budget, how many people were served, all public relations materials with arts council logo and name
- A presentation to accompany the written report within two months of conclusion of the event during a monthly arts council meeting
- Mini-grant requests are reviewed the second Tuesday of every month. The deadline for consideration is the first of every month. Submissions received after the first of the month will not be reviewed until the following month.
- Requests are required to fill out the online application form for consideration. Any questions regarding the form or submissions may be directed to Kerrie Nichols 816-969-1513 or Kerrie.Nichols@cityofls.net
- All submissions must be received 90 days prior to the program or event for consideration.
