Community Invited to Ward Road Ribbon Cutting on Sept. 27

The community is invited to celebrate the completion of the Ward Road Improvements Project at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Southwest Ward Road and Southwest Fenwick Road. This project is the culmination of decades of work and long-term planning that transformed Ward Road, providing safe access for all residents.

This project widened and reconstructed Ward Road to a three-lane road from Southwest County Line Road to 163rd Street. In addition to widening the road, sidewalks, street lighting, enclosed stormwater systems, and curb and gutter were added. These additions meet the City’s livable streets policy, making it safer for drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians and transit riders.

The improvements to the Ward Road corridor would not have been possible without longstanding support from the community and elected officials. Voters approved a bond issue in 1995, a ½ cent sales tax for capital improvements along with a road excise tax in 1997, and a ½ cent sales tax renewal in 2007, which all helped to revitalize Ward Road from Longview Road to 163rd Street.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is free to attend and open to the public. For more information about the project, contact Public Works at 969-1800 or publicworks@cityofLS.net.
