City’s Crews Pretreating Streets Ahead of Winter Storm

City crews are pretreating streets today, Thurs., Jan. 16, ahead of a predicted winter storm. Forecasts are indicating snow after midnight that changes over to sleet and freezing rain early Friday morning before becoming all rain Friday afternoon. Slickness is expected at onset, and cold temperatures and freezing rain will reduce the effectiveness of salt treatment on streets. Residents should use caution, especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses and on untreated surfaces such as parking lots and sidewalks.

Re-freezing is also a concern for Saturday morning, and crews are currently scheduled to treat streets early Saturday morning. The City will continue to monitor the weather forecast and will update its response accordingly.
