Lee’s Summit to Observe 20th Anniversary of 9/11

In observance of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, the City of Lee’s Summit will be hosting a public ceremony on Sept. 11 at City Hall Plaza to honor the victims and show support for the men and women in uniform who continue to defend and protect us. The ceremony will be held at 7:30 a.m. rain or shine.

Residents are encouraged to volunteer as part of the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. Congress designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service in 2009. It’s an opportunity to come together as a community and help others in tribute to those killed or injured on Sept. 11, 2001, first responders and those who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. Residents are also encouraged to display flags outside their homes.

A section of SW McClendon Drive between SW 1st Street and SW Peggy Circle is set to close on Monday, April 8, and will remain closed for approximately three months. The work is necessary for sanitary sewer work as part of the McClendon Ditch Sewer Improvements project. The detour route includes SW 1st Street, SW McClendon Drive, and SW 3rd Street. All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

Due to the closure of NW Quarry Park Road west of NW Pryor Road, a section of Noland Road between NW Quarry Park Road and Bannister Road has been reopened for temporary access as of Monday, April 1. The access on NW Clifford Road through Century Concrete is no longer available and should not be used.

The closure of SE Second Street has been extended to SE Green Street. The section of SE 2nd Street from SE Green to SE Eastridge streets is now expected to remain closed through mid-May.
