City’s Crews Preparing for Winter Storm Jan. 10-11
City crews are preparing for a winter storm Fri., Jan. 10, and overnight into Sat., Jan. 11. Rain is expected to change over to freezing rain and/or sleet Friday evening, continuing overnight into Saturday and then changing over to snow. Several inches of snow over ice/sleet is expected by the end of the day Saturday. The rain will prevent pre-treatment of streets, and slick conditions are expected.
City crews will begin treating streets Friday evening and will continue working throughout the weekend until all streets are plowed and treated. Depending on the total snow amounts, it will take crews from 32.5 to 40 hours after accumulating snow ends to plow and treat the more than 1,000 lane miles in the city. Cold temperatures on Saturday will limit the effectiveness of salt treatments, and snow and ice may remain packed to streets even after being plowed and treated. Residents can help the snow and ice control process by removing vehicles from streets.
The City will continue to monitor the weather forecast, and will update its response accordingly.
