Fire Damages South Lee’s Summit Home

LEE’S SUMMIT, MO— On Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at 6:30 p.m., the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to 3900 Block of SE Doc Henry Road for a reported structure fire. The caller reported a fire under the siding of the house and in the basement. The house was being evacuated.

When crews arrived, there was nothing visible from the outside of a two-story, single-family home. The occupants had extinguished the fire on the outside of the house. Crews entered the building and found the basement filled with heavy smoke. Firefighters had to open the concealed spaces in the exterior wall and basement ceiling to extinguish the remaining fire. The incident was under control by 6:45 p.m.

Fire damage was limited to a portion of the outside wall and floor joists in the basement. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
