The City’s crews are pre-treating streets due to a winter storm that began today, Monday, Jan. 8, and is expected to continue overnight into tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 9. A mix of rain and snow is expected throughout the day today, and pavement temperatures should remain above freezing until 10 p.m. tonight; however, heavy snow may overwhelm pavements at times and cause slushy conditions. Pavement temperatures will fall below freezing later tonight, and drivers should use caution, especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses. Crews will continue pre-treating streets but may have to switch to plowing and treating as pavement temperatures fall and snow begins to accumulate. READ MORE -->

 

The Lee's Summit Police Department will be conducting a Crash Reduction Project along 150 Highway for the next 6 months. There will be multiple focus areas within this project along 150Hwy; to include the feeder streets to 150hwy. (Ward Rd, Pryor, 291hwy)

What you can expect: Officers being highly visible along 150 Hwy, stopping vehicles for a multitude of reasons that often lead to crashes. Some of the most common factors we see in crashes are "Following too closely", "Failure to yield", "Inattention", and/or "Speed."

What you can do: Tell family, friends, teen drivers, and co-workers, about this project and if it wasn't obvious; SLOW DOWN, KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE, YIELD, PAY ATTENTION and lastly, understand that we are trying to keep everyone safe by reducing crashes.

The City of Lee’s Summit is pleased to announce the appointment of Diana Newman as director of information technology. Newman begins her position on Jan. 6, where she will provide overall management, control and direction for the Information Technology Division. Newman will lead a staff of 33 professionals and oversee a budget of approximately $6 million. Newman brings more than 30 years of experience providing informational technology and strategic leadership in both the private and public sectors, most recently serving as project manager for the City of Lee’s Summit’s Information Technology Division since August of 2023. In that role, Newman was responsible for leading the replacement of the City’s Enterprise Resource Planning Software, a complex project with a significant impact on the productivity and resiliency of the organization. The City’s crews prepared trucks and equipment due to light snow forecast for tonight, Friday, Jan. 5, and tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 6. Pavement temperatures are expected to remain at or above freezing which should melt any snow on pavements; however, snow may become heavy at times and could overwhelm pavements. The City will continue to monitor the weather and will call out crews as needed for response.

The City’s crews are also preparing for snow early next week, with accumulating snow expected on Monday, Jan. 8, and overnight into Tuesday, Jan. 9. Temperatures will be low enough for snow to stick to pavements. Crews will be ready to work around the clock to plow and treat streets as needed.
