Wreath Laying Ceremony

The American Legion Post 189 of Lees Summit and the City of Lees Summit Parks and Recreation will host a "Wreath Laying Ceremony" this Saturday, December 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lees Summit Historical Cemetery at 806 SE 3rd Street. The event will honor and pay tribute to our fallen, as well as honor those who serve and their families. The public is invited to attend and also lay a wreath for a veteran friend/family member buried in the cemetery (bring your own wreath). There are currently 1,246 veterans in the LSHC. City Crews Continue to Treat Roadways Today, Nov. 30

The City’s crews continue to treat roadways today, Saturday, Nov. 30 after a heavy band of snow pushed through the area later this morning leaving heavier snow on the north side of the City and a trace on the south side. Crews will work north to south to treat roadways covered in snow. Pavement temperatures are expected to be above freezing through the remainder of the day helping to melt any accumulated snow on the roadways.

City Crews Scheduled to Treat Streets as Needed

The City has a crew scheduled to report at 3 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 to monitor conditions and treat roadways and bridges throughout the morning into the afternoon as needed due to the potential for a dusting to one inch of snow. Pavement temperatures should be above freezing in the afternoon and limit accumulation. Drivers should be cautious, especially on elevated bridges and overpasses.

LSPD Homicide Investigation

On Friday, November 22 at approximately 8 a.m. officers responded to a disturbance call in the 2100 block of SW Rutherford Drive. The 911 caller indicated that an adult male had been shot inside of the residence; they also indicated that the suspect was a person known to them. As officers entered the home, they located the male victim who was deceased.  The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival and surrendered himself to Police a few hours later. Detectives are working to also establish the timeline of events that led up to the shooting.

Inclement Winter Weather Route Established for Northwest Quarry Park Road

The City of Lee’s Summit has established an inclement winter weather route through the Clarkson Construction property north of Northwest Quarry Park Road. This route is necessary due to the upcoming winter weather season and the continued closure of Northwest Quarry Park Road west of Northwest Pryor Road. Access to the inclement winter weather route is from Northwest Quarry Park Road.

This route will only be used when inclement winter weather is forecast and the City anticipates the need to plow and/or treat streets.
