Mayor Baird Issues Community Advisory on COVID-19
The City of Lee’s Summit is advising community members and businesses to take certain precautions to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19. This advice includes the postponement or cancellation of events with more than 1,000 persons in attendance for the next 30 days. Organizers of small events are encouraged to take measures to help prevent the spread of the virus.
The City is working across all departments and with the professionals at the Jackson County Health Department to prevent potential spread and ensure proper measures and precautions are in place. There are no known cases of COVID-19 in Lee’s Summit at this time.
“Protecting the health and well-being of the community is our top priority and we need to be a part of the regional effort to help prevent the spread of the virus and protect each other,” said Mayor Bill Baird. “As we navigate this rapidly evolving public health situation, we are urging our residents to consider social distancing (defined as 6 feet) in addition to other preventive measures such as frequent hand washing and avoiding handshakes. Exercising such mindfulness will slow the spread and help safeguard our higher risk individuals such as older adults or those with long-term health problems.”
Residents should stay informed and ensure they are receiving information from reliable sources. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Jackson County Health Department offer up-to-date information on their websites and social media. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) has activated a 24/7 phone hotline for the public or providers to receive information or guidance related to COVID-19.
