Lee’s Summit Municipal Election Filing Begins Dec. 17
Candidates for the April 7, 2020 municipal election may begin filing their applications Dec. 17 at the City Clerk’s office in City Hall, 220 SE Green St. Filing hours are 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The filing period ends Jan. 21, 2020.
A municipal election will be held for one councilmember in each of the four Lee’s Summit City Council districts. There will also be an election for Municipal Judge Division 263.
Candidates for City Council must reside in Lee’s Summit for at least two years, and in their respective district for at least six months, preceding the election. Each district shall be represented by a qualified voter of that district. City councilmembers serve four-year terms.
Candidates for Lee’s Summit Municipal Court judge must be a licensed member of the Missouri Bar and must have actively practiced law in Missouri for at least three years immediately preceding the election. They must also be a Lee’s Summit resident for at least two years preceding the election as well as a qualified voter. Municipal judges serve four-year terms.
