Curriculum Enhancement Opportunities

Access to Arts in the Classroom or Fieldtrips

Explorable Places - Kansas City is a new online platform in which teachers and parents can find free or low cost cultural programs offered by regional artists and organizations to enhance classroom learning. 

Missouri Arts Council's Big Yellow School Bus Grants helps schools meet the transportation costs of educational field trips to arts institutions and activities in Missouri that are funded by the Missouri Arts Council.

Kansas City Young Audiences offers school and community programs to provide curriculum-based workshops, classes, residencies and performances that enhance classroom learning. Discounted programs are available to Title I schools. Funding is also available through the Lee’s Summit Arts Council Grant Program.  

KC Friends of Alvin Alley (KCFAA) educational programs make a difference. By going into schools, offering workshops, inviting children to participate, KCFAA actively demonstrates and encourages positive life skills such as focus, teamwork and discipline. Most of all, students learn to broaden their idea of who they are - and who they can become.

Lyric Opera of Kansas City offers several student educational opportunities as well as community programs that engage audiences in opera music.  

Professional Development for Teachers

KC Metro Arts Collaborative hosts its annual KC Metro Arts Integration Symposium, a three-day symposium that explores the power of the arts in engaging students, strengthening comprehension, and bringing content areas to life. This event is led by Kennedy Center (Wash., D.C.) Teaching Artists.

KC Young Audiences (KCYA) STEAM Residency Project pairs KCYA professional teaching artists with classroom teachers and foster the integration of the arts in the STEM curriculum.

Missouri Alliance for Arts Education Arts Educator Mentoring Program, provides assistance to first-year teachers serving in areas where a lack of equity creates significant challenges for beginning teachers. 

Missouri Alliance for Arts Education provides several workshops for teachers to enhance classroom teaching through the arts.
