The Beautification Commission was created as an advisory commission to the Council. The Commission shall consist of nine members with three year terms until their successors are duly appointed and qualified. Members shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of a majority of the Council.
It shall be the responsibility of the commission to study, investigate, counsel and develop and/or update annually, and administer a written plan for the care, preservation, pruning, planting, replanting, removal or disposition of trees and shrubs in parks, along streets and in other public areas. Such plan will be presented annually to the City Council and, upon its acceptance and approval, shall constitute the officials comprehensive city tree plan for the city. The commission, when requested by the City Council, shall consider, investigate, make findings, report and recommend upon any special matter or question coming within the scope of its work. Other objectives include:
- Promote the overall image and aesthetics of the community
- Promote civic pride through beautification projects
- Provide an avenue for citizens to work together on beautification projects
