OUR MISSION

Lee's Summit Water Utilities is dedicated to providing reliable water and sanitary sewer services responsibly and efficiently for the health and safety of our community with exceptional customer service, integrity and pride.

Can't Flush This!

There are so many items that we try to flush down the toilet that really should not be there – medications, wipes, hygiene products, diapers, etc.  Our sanitary sewer systems are not designed for anything other than standard toilet paper and human waste to be flushed. Other items – even those marked “flushable” can clog up a sewer main or lateral before it naturally biodegrades. Overtime, flushing these “foreign” items can result in back-ups or overflows. So before you flush, remember you can’t flush this:

  • Baby wipes
  • Diapers
  • Paper towels
  • Cleaning wipes
  • Cotton balls or swabs
  • Syringes
  • Candy or food wrappers
  • Clothing labels
  • Sponges
  • Toys
  • Any plastic item
  • Aquarium gravel
  • Kitty litter
  • Rubber or latex items
  • Cigarette butts
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Hair
  • Underwear
  • Disposable toilet brushes
  • Medication
  • Bandages

Lee’s Summit Water Utilities is proud to announce it has, once again, met and exceeded all federal quality standards as reported in the 2017 Annual Water Quality Report.
“This is just another excellent example of our employee’s dedication to our mission of providing this community with safe, reliable water services,” said Mark Schaufler, Director of Water Utilities. “Our technicians collect water samples on a weekly basis throughout the City to ensure every drop we deliver is safe for you and yours.”
The report provides details of the most recent monitoring results for substances commonly found in drinking water as required by the Environmental Protection Agency through the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act. Any detected levels of substances found in Lee’s Summit’s drinking water are well below federal standards and many substances are naturally occurring or are byproducts of drinking water disinfection.
The 2017 Water Quality Report also provides information on Lee’s Summit’s water sources, its system and planned infrastructure reinvestments and renewals.
The report can be found online here. To request a hard copy, call 816-969-1900 or visit Lee’s Summit Water Utilities at 220 SE Green Street. For more information, visit www.LSwater.net or call 816-969-1900.
