Lee's Summit Water Utilities is dedicated to providing reliable water and sanitary sewer services responsibly and efficiently for the health and safety of our community with exceptional customer service, integrity and pride.

Can't Flush This!

There are so many items that we try to flush down the toilet that really should not be there – medications, wipes, hygiene products, diapers, etc.  Our sanitary sewer systems are not designed for anything other than standard toilet paper and human waste to be flushed. Other items – even those marked “flushable” can clog up a sewer main or lateral before it naturally biodegrades. Overtime, flushing these “foreign” items can result in back-ups or overflows. So before you flush, remember you can’t flush this:

  • Baby wipes
  • Diapers
  • Paper towels
  • Cleaning wipes
  • Cotton balls or swabs
  • Syringes
  • Candy or food wrappers
  • Clothing labels
  • Sponges
  • Toys
  • Any plastic item
  • Aquarium gravel
  • Kitty litter
  • Rubber or latex items
  • Cigarette butts
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Hair
  • Underwear
  • Disposable toilet brushes
  • Medication
  • Bandages

Water Utilities Advisory Board recommends financial policy to City Council

The Lee’s Summit Water Utilities Department has made significant progress in implementing the Water Utilities Strategic Plan since its adoption by the City Council in December 2011. One of the more recent developments has been the appointment and subsequent meetings of the Water Utilities Advisory Board. The board is an expansion of the Water Tap Fee Committee to include customer input on rates, fees and other charges necessary to sustain the Water Utilities Department as well as tap fees.

City Lifts Outdoor Watering Restrictions

Today, August 15, Lee’s Summit Mayor Randy Rhoads signed a proclamation rescinding the outdoor watering restrictions implemented on July 6. The watering restrictions were necessary due to the high demands for water caused by the hot and very dry weather conditions experienced throughout the Midwest region of the country.
