City Celebrates Two Major Transportation Milestones

Ribbon-cutting for Lee’s Summit Road Completion and Hangar 1 building Acquisition


In celebration of two projects benefiting both motorists and aviators, the City of Lee’s Summit is excited to host a ribbon-cutting event for the completion of the highly anticipated Lee’s Summit Road improvements and the purchase of the newly named Hangar 1 building located on the grounds of Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport.


The ribbon-cutting will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Fri., Dec. 16, inside Hangar 1, formerly known as the Air Charter hangar, 2525 NE Douglas St., Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport Purchases Hangar Building

The Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport has purchased the former Air Charter hangar building at 2525 NE Douglas St. from De Jarnette Enterprises, Inc. for $1.5 million. The Lee’s Summit City Council approved the real estate agreement at its Nov. 3, 2016, meeting, and the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport took ownership of the hangar on Nov. 30, 2016. The building has been re-named Hangar 1.

Lee’s Summit Named a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists

Lee’s Summit has once again been named a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) by the League of American Bicyclists. 

One-Way, Northbound Traffic Only Allowed on SW Jefferson Street from SW Scherer to SW Persels Roads Beginning Friday, Oct. 21

SW Jefferson Street from SW Scherer to SW Persels roads will become one-way, northbound traffic only on Friday, Oct. 21, weather permitting, until roadway reconstruction is completed in early summer 2017. The construction is necessary as part of the Jefferson Street Improvement Project. The intersection of SW Jefferson Street and SW Scherer Road, which had 
previously closed for reconstructionwill reopen by Friday, Oct. 21, for this detour to take place.
