Groundbreaking for Route 291 South and US 50 Highway Interchange Project is May 3

The City of Lee’s Summit and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) are hosting a groundbreaking event to kick off construction of the Route 291 and U.S. 50 Interchange. The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at Harris Park in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Attendees are encouraged to park at Harris Park Community Center and follow the trail to the event.

Lee’s Summit Road Improvements Project Wins Project of the Year Award from APWA KC Metro Chapter

The Lee’s Summit Road Improvements Project was announced as a Public Works Project of the Year by the Kansas City Metro Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) at a luncheon on April 12, at the Grand Street Café in Kansas City, Mo. The project won in the transportation category for projects more than $5 million but less than $25 million. The entire project team, including the City of Lee’s Summit, the City of Kansas City, Mo, engineering consultant TranSystems, and contractor VF Anderson Builders, were recognized for the award.

5th Terrace Improvement Project Open House Set for April 10

The City of Lee’s Summit will host an open house for the 5th Terrace Improvement Project from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 10, at Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 S.E. Green St., in the Howard Conference Room on the second floor.

Temporary Runway Closures at Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport Set to Begin

**UPDATE 4/17/17**
Runway 11/29 will temporarily close for 21 days beginning at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 17. During this period, both runways will be closed and no take offs or landings are possible. After this period, runway 11/29 will reopen; however, runway 18/36 will remain closed until construction is completed in four to five months. Please note the Airport will be open to helicopter operations during the closure of both runways.

**UPDATE 4/10/17**
Please be advised that due to the weather forecast in the coming days, the closure of Runway 11/29 will be pushed back to the week of April 17th.  An exact date for the closure will be posted once it has been determined.

**UPDATE 4/7/17**
The closure of Runway 11/29 will begin at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 10, weather permitting. This runway will remain closed for approximately 21 days. Please note that during those 21 days, no take offs or landings are possible at the Airport. If weather conditions prevent the start of this work as planned, the NOTAM will be cancelled no later than 5 p.m. local time on Monday afternoon.

**UPDATE**
The planned closure of Runway 18/36 beginning Monday, April 3, has been postponed due to weather conditions. The next possible date for the work to begin will be Thursday, April 6. A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) will be filed the evening of April 4, if weather conditions permit.

Runway 18/36 at the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport is set to close temporarily at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 3, weather permitting, and will remain closed for approximately four to five months. In addition, runway 11/29 is set to temporarily close at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, weather permitting, and will remain closed for 21 days for runway intersection construction. 

No take offs or landings will be possible during the 21 day closure of both runway 18/36 and 11/29. After those 21 days, runway 11/29 will re-open while runway 18/36 will remain closed until construction is completed. These runway closures are necessary as part of the runway 18/36 improvements project, which will extend the runway from 4,000 to 5,500 feet.
