SW Jefferson Street from SW Scherer to SW Persels roads will become one-way, northbound traffic only on Friday, Oct. 21, weather permitting, until roadway reconstruction is completed in early summer 2017. The construction is necessary as part of the Jefferson Street Improvement Project. The intersection of SW Jefferson Street and SW Scherer Road, which had previously closed for reconstruction, will reopen by Friday, Oct. 21, for this detour to take place.
Each side of SW Jefferson Street from SW Scherer to SW Persels roads will be reconstructed while under traffic, but only northbound traffic will be maintained. Southbound traffic will detour to access SW Jefferson Street from SW Scherer Road via SW Persels Road or MO-291 Highway throughout the duration of the project.
The Jefferson Street Improvement Project will widen and reconstruct SW Jefferson Street as a three-lane road from SW Scherer to SW Persels roads. This section will have sidewalk, a shared-use path and street lighting. The road will be two lanes with paved shoulders from SW Stuart to SW Scherer roads. This project is one of six projects funded by the ½ cent Transportation Sales Tax approved by voters in 2007. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and flow of traffic along this road. Construction of the Jefferson Street Improvement Project began in early July 2015 and is expected to conclude by early summer 2017.
