The intersection of SW Jefferson Street and SW Scherer Road in Lee’s Summit, Mo., is set to close temporarily on Wednesday, Sept. 21, weather permitting, and is anticipated to remain closed for four weeks. This closure also includes the section of SW Jefferson Street between SW Scherer Road and SW Industrial Drive. The closures are necessary as part of the Jefferson Street Improvement Project.
Traffic on Scherer Road will be detoured across SW Persels Road. All traffic accessing SW Jefferson Street north of SW Industrial Drive must do so from SW Persels Road. All traffic accessing SW Jefferson Street south of SW Scherer Road can use either SW Stuart Road or SW Market Street. Signage will be in place for all detours.
The Jefferson Street Improvement Project will widen and reconstruct SW Jefferson Street as a three-lane road from SW Scherer to SW Persels roads. This section will have sidewalk, a shared-use path and street lighting. The road will be two lanes with paved shoulders from SW Stuart to SW Scherer roads. This project is one of six projects funded by the ½ cent Transportation Sales Tax approved by voters in 2007. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and flow of traffic along this road. Construction of the Jefferson Street Improvement Project began in early July 2015 and is expected to conclude by early summer 2017.
