Snow and Ice Control

Department Page | Snow/Emergency Plan | Winter Safety Tips | Snow Control FAQs and Tips

The Public Works Department is responsible for snow removal on public streets. The department monitors weather forecasts closely to schedule crews in advance of winter weather to ensure the highest possible level of response for safe travel during the event.

The Snow Plan has a scheduled route system. Snow plows are only redirected to assist police and fire emergencies; they are not otherwise pulled off of their established routes. If snow control operations are complete, but you believe your street was missed, contact the Snow Desk at 816-969-1870.

Public Works crews have been continually treating roads since 3 a.m., Tues. morning, Feb. 20 and recently finished the treatment of residential streets as of Wed., Feb. 21 from the first round of wintry ice storms.  Roads may still be icy due to the freezing air and pavement temperatures, which reduce the effectiveness of the salt treatments. Please be careful.

Crews are gearing up for the next round of storms forecast to begin tonight, Wed., Feb. 21 by pre-treating arterial and collector roads. Crews will conclude pre-treatment operations at 3:30 p.m. and resume operations at 7 p.m. this evening in anticipation of additional freezing precipitation beginning about midnight tonight.
