The 2012 open application period has ended.  We are currently testing and interviewing applicants generated from the 2012 process.  Normally, the LSPD tests once each year in October. If a hiring list is exhausted before the normal October testing cycle, an additional open application period may be posted.  To be notified of that posting, you can check our website or submit a position interest form via the link above this paragraph. Applications are only accepted during the four week open application period once the position is posted.  Applications received outside of that time frame will be rejected.

The Lee's Summit Police Department offers great pay and benefits, as well as equipment and training that prepare you to perform as a professional police officer for the City of Lee's Summit. The current salary for  police officers is $37,143 per year. The City offers a college incentive reimbursement program, clothing allowance for plain clothes assignments, uniform dry cleaning, overtime pay, vacation pay; sick and short-term disability leave, health and dental insurance plan, pension plan and a voluntary deferred compensation plan.

The Lee's Summit Police Department officer applicant screening process is multi-phased and consists of the following steps:

  • Preliminary application
  • Written examination
  • Oral interview
  • Polygraph examination
  • Background investigation
  • Conditional Offer of Employment
  • Psychological examination
  • Medical examination
  • Final Offer of Employment

From the time of intial application, the hiring process can take between 3-6 months.  Contact will be maintained with applicants from the time of initial application until an applicant is removed from the hiring process or an offer of employment is granted.

The Lee's Summit Missouri Police Department is a sponsoring agency.  This means that once accepted as an Officer, you will attend the Kansas City Missouri Regional Police Academy.  The Lee's Summit Police Department covers all costs associated with the training and pays you a salary while you are attending.  Upon graduation, you are assigned to the Field Training program which lasts an additional 16 weeks.

You will be asked to complete a Personal History Questionnaire after completion of an entry level test and if  you are being considered for any of the above positions. Do not submit as an application or unsolicited.

 

*Employment of family members

 

The employment of family members is prohibited in the following situations:

  1. Where an employee would be supervised by his/her family member and/or
  2. In the same department or division where family members would be in the same place or in regular or frequent contact.

 

Family member includes the employee's spouse, son, daughter, father, mother, sister, brother, grandchild, grandparent, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, step-father, step-mother, step-son, step-daughter, step-brother, step-sister, aunt, uncle, any relationship resulting from a legal adoption, foster child, legal guardianship, and also including any relative residing with the employee.
