COUNTERFEIT BILLS SHOW UP IN LEE’S SUMMIT
Police detectives in Lee’s Summit are seeking assistance identifying two subjects captured on store video passing counterfeit bills. The two subjects, a black male and a younger looking black female, were successful in passing $300.00 worth of counterfeit twenty-dollar bills at the Lee’s Summit Wal-Mart on Monday evening January 11th at approximately 7:30 pm. It was after the purchase that store management discovered the bills were counterfeit.
Examining the counterfeit bills management noticed the paper did not have the feel or consistency of an actual dollar bill and lacked a security strip or the reflective areas common on new bills. The counterfeit bills also had the same serial numbers. Of the fifteen counterfeit bills passed all had one of three identical serial numbers. Through contact with other metro departments it has been determined that these same serial numbered counterfeit bills have been used in North Kansas City, Kansas City and Independence on the Missouri side and on the Kansas side in Pittsburg, Shawnee Mission and Wichita.
Detectives are asking if anyone recognizes the two subjects in the video or has additional information about the case to contact the Lee’s Summit Police Department directly at 816-969-1720 or the TIPS Hotline at 474-TIPS (8477).
