Lee’s Summit, Mo. – On 6/15/2011 at 7:20 a.m., members of the Lee’s Summit Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of 291 Highway south of 5th Street. Investigation at the scene revealed that the southbound vehicle, a 2009 Dodge had crossed over the center line of the highway and struck a white, Ford van that was headed north. The driver of the Dodge was identified as Linda Ellis of Independence, MO. She was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Ford van was identified as Aaron Jones of Pleasant Hill, MO and he was treated at the scene and released. The on-scene investigation revealed that prior to crossing over into the northbound lanes, the driver’s side window of the Dodge was shattered, thus causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. In checking the debris field, a metal table knife was located that had either fallen off or been thrown up by a passing vehicle into the window of the Dodge causing it to shatter. No citations have been issued in the incident.
