Bomb Squad

The Lees Summit Police Department Bomb Squad was created in 1974 and has been accredited by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Each member of the Bomb Squad is an FBI trained and certified bomb technician. Each technician attends training at Redstone Arsenal located in Huntsville, Alabama. The initial training is six weeks long and every technician attends recertification for one week every three years.

The Bomb Squad's primary mission is to handle calls for service that involve such things as  bomb threats, suspicious packages, post blast investigations, and the recovery and safe disposal of explosives and military ordnance. The Bomb Squad is capable of handling incidents from a small pipe bomb to large vehicle bombs.

All technicians on the Bomb Squad hold a deputization from the U.S.Marshals Service and could potentially be called to respond to anywhere in the United States.
