Don't see BOSU and Gliding in the class descriptions. What are they?

BOSU (Both Sides Utilized) (Ages 12+): BOSU training is about expanding movement capabilities, reshaping bodies and strengthening minds. Expect to burn 900 calories in this one hour class!

Gliding (Ages 12+): Take your workouts to the next level by training every muscle in every way. Enhance stability and mobility by taking this exciting class using special discs for flowing floor and standing exercises.

So disappointing that Lotawana residents are not considered LS resdents (for cost to join). Even though my kids go to LS schools, and we shop and eat out in LS!!!
Bums me out!

Thank you for your comment. I would like to explain the reasons behind the resident discount for the LPCC membership rates. The Legacy Park Community Center operates at 100% cost recovery and does not receive tax dollars to operate the facility. The community center was built with funds from a 1/4 cent sales tax which the residents of Lee's Summit voted for in 1998. The resident discount is to show appreciation to its citizens, who in 1998 and 2008 chose to support the development of their park system by passing sales tax initiative.

Non residents do not pay property taxes to the City of Lee's Summit, vote for the elected officials or tax issues specifically designated for the City of Lee's Summit. As you mentioned in your comment your children attend Lee's Summit Schools, but the school district is a separate entity and neither the City of Lee's Summit or the Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation department receive any portion of the tax money paid to the R7 School District. In the event that LSPR is unable to meet the financial obligations for our facilities or programs the burden to pay for this would fall on the residents of Lee's Summit, not the residents of Lake Lotawana or other surrounding communities.

We do appreciate that you chose Legacy Park Community Center as your fitness facility and we are confident the fee you pay (regular rate) of $225 per year or $18.75 per month is an outstanding value. And if you feel the facility does not meet your expectations or your experience is less than satisfactory we do offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I do hope my response was able to clarify our purpose for a resident discount. If you have any further questions please contact me at 816.969.1555 or jbell@cityofls.net.

Thanks for the descriptions. I have seen the BOSU balls and wondered how to use them. And I have heard of the gliding before. Looking forward to checking out these new classes. Thanks for changing the aqua class times!

I would like to see fitness classes for younger children added to the class schedule and classes need to be at times that accommodate a working parents schedule as well as the children’s school schedules. I have a daughter who is 7 and overweight. With childhood obesity and diabetes in the national spotlight (and now schools are being forced to cut back on gym and recess times because of budget reasons) - you would think more facilities would offer more organized fitness opportunities for younger children. I know I would be more motivated to go to the gym and work out with or while my child was getting some work out time in too!

Jessica, thanks for you comments. Currently LPCC offers BOSU for kids on Wednesday nights at 6:30pm. In addition to that class your daughter may participate in any of our classes as part of her membership or single visit fee. In addition LPCC has a great staff of personal trainers available for individual or tandem sessions. For more information regarding our class schedule please call us at 816.969.1550 or check out our schedules on line at www.lsparks.net
