Animal Wonders

Animal Wonders Winter Break (Ages 5 - 12)

Winter Break doesn't have to pass slowly and coldly - come see live examples and learn about the lives of animals from tiny insects to exotic birds and mammals. New topics will be covered each week. Students will learn about animal care, behaviors, ecosystems, terminology, and perform age appropriate experiments. Art

Budding Artists (Ages 5-8)

Intro to Art

Learn fundamentals of art through the mediums of pastels, markers, crayons, watercolor, and clay. Complete a project in each medium and create a portfolio.  Location: Gamber Center, 4 SE Independence Ave.969-1580.

 

Drawing & Painting

Use several mediums including watercolor, markers, crayons, and pencils to create a variety of images and complete a project in each area.  Location: Gamber Center, 4 SE Independence Ave.969-1580.

 

Pottery

Learn hand building skills and techniques with clay or expand on previously learned skills to create a new and detailed works of art. The first week will cover building techniques such as pinch, coil, and slab. The second and third weeks will cover building a functional and sculptural piece. The final week will be used to glaze the pieces of art work. Pieces will then be fired and can be picked up at a later date.   Location: Potter's Haven, 5 SW 4th Street.

Evolving Artists (Ages vary)

Caricature Creations (Ages 9 - 12)

Learn how to draw caricatures by studying facial features, action poses, and background scenery. Instructor has a BA in Studio Art and draws caricatures for gifts and special events. Location: Gamber Center, 4 SE Independence Ave.969-1580.

 

Intro to Art Design (Ages 9 - 16)

Learn and practice art techniques and vocabulary related to painting, clay, drawing, and creation of a portfolio. Complete one project in each medium. Location: Gamber Center, 4 SE Independence Ave.969-1580.

 

Painting (Ages 9 - 12)

Build and develop individual style using acrylic paints and be guided through with exposure to methods to help achieve an individual masterpiece on canvas. Location: Gamber Center, 4 SE Independence Ave.969-1580.

 

Drawing (Ages 9 - 16)

Use imagination and creativity while working with pastels, ink, pens, pencils, color pencils, and charcoal to draw a variety of images. Projects will be completed in each medium. Location: Gamber Center, 4 SE Independence Ave.969-1580.

 

NEW! Paint Your Own T-Shirt (Ages 10+)

Design a unique looking t-shirt using stencils, fabric spray paint, stamps, fabric markers, etc. Choose from provided various designs or make one up! Learn about painting techniques such as layering, stencils, splattering, spray paint, markers, brushwork, etc. Students need to bring 2 colors of fabric spray paint, an apron and/or.smock to wear, paint brushes, water container and 2 projects to work on (t-shirt, etc.). Location: Gamber Center, 4 SE Independence Ave.969-1580.

 

Beginning Pencil Drawing (Ages 9+)

Have fun drawing animals and action figures with graphite pencil. Learn
Shading, shadowing, observation techniques, basic shapes, line quality and more. Instructor has a BA in Studio Art. Location: Gamber Center, 4 SE Independence Ave.969-1580.

Mold Pouring (Ages 9 - 16)

Learn the process of creating a ceramic figurine from start to finish. Each student will pour two pieces, clean their own green ware, and finish with acrylic paints. Location: Potter's Haven, 5 SW 4th Street.

Babysitting

Babysitter Boot Camp (Ages 10-17)

Fall In! Basic training for youth aspiring to babysit! New recruits will learn how to play effectively with children of all ages, prepare chow, manage lights-out, discipline, personal and child safety, first aid and CPR. Participants will also prepare business cards, create a marketing plan and determine how to prepare for any sitting job. Participants need to bring a sack lunch and drink. Dismissed! Computer 

Video Game Design (Ages 9 - 17)

A fun interactive look at the world of video game design and development. Students will learn the basics of video game design and produce several different interactive video games to share with their friends and family. Game Maker 8 software will be used during class and will be available for purchase at class for $20. Students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Gaming Academy (Ages 9 - 17)

Students will be immersed into the world of 2D and 3D game design. Class is a combination of Video Game Design, Advanced Game Design, and 3D Game Design courses. This cutting edge course instructs students how to build a 3D world and blurs the lines between reality. Students will enter their Virtual worlds via a fully-immersive head-mounted display and interact with their creations. No School Day “Play in a Day” (Grades PreK - 8)

No school on Friday, April 6th. What to do with the kids? Send them to Play in a Day! A fun drama workshop where kids rehearse and perform an entire show in just one day. First Aid

Kids First Aid (Ages 7-12)

Prepare your child to get help quickly and handle first aid emergencies such as bleeding, burns, sprains, facial injuries as well as illness. Horsemanship & Riding  

Texas Tots Horsemanship (Ages 4-6)

Everything is big in Texas but this class is designed for little ones. In this class, kids will meet real horses and have the opportunity to learn while having a real big time! Saddles, bridles, horse grooming and safety are all part of the program. NEW! Bridge Basics (Ages 9 - 17)

Learn the game of bridge and at the same time increase your math, logic, and social skills! Each student will receive a textbook and t-shirt. This unique style of teaching will allow children of all athletic abilities to be successful in tumbling. XM (Xtreme Movement) (Ages 11 - 14)

This new physical discipline trains students to overcome any obstacle within their path by adapting movements to the environment. It is a non-competitive sport that is all about having fun and showing your own personal style. Run along a route and attempt to negotiate obstacles in the most efficient way possible. Skills such as jumping and climbing along with the more specific Xtreme Movement moves are employed. Students will learn how to roll, flip (front, back, & side), and dismount off various objects. Class also involves a lot of trick moves, particularly aerial rotations and spins. These moves are designed to be very showy and flashy. Kids of all ages and abilities will love this class!!!
