Arts and Culture around Lee's Summit

City Hires First Cultural Arts Manager, Glenda Masters

City Hires First Cultural Arts Manager, Glenda Masters

The City of Lee’s Summit is pleased to announce Glenda Masters has joined the City as cultural arts manager on Monday, March 5. In this position, Masters will be responsible for the management, development and coordination of public cultural art programs including providing administrative support to the Lee’s Summit Arts Council.

Masters has over 13 years of professional experience in the execution of cultural development activities for nonprofit and municipal entities which includes implementing arts education, outreach and audience development programs; leveraging private and public funds for program and capital development, museum interpretation and historic preservation; supporting commissioned public art installations; and engaging local artists in creative place-making.

Prior to joining the City of Lee’s Summit, Masters was the development manager for the Town of Parker Cultural Department (Parker Arts) in Parker, Colo., where she was responsible for establishing and implementing all activities related to generating contributed revenues, including public, private and corporate grants, individual contributions and corporate sponsorships. Masters worked extensively with community stakeholders to increase awareness of Parker Arts and supported efforts to coordinate a task force of local artist and cultural entrepreneurs for the commissioning of Parker’s first major public art installation. She also worked with Parker’s Art in Public Places Committee to create and implement fundraising strategies to support Parker’s public art installations.

Masters also served as annual fund manager for Opera Colorado and was the resource development specialist for the City of Lakewood, Colo. She is a performer and was a member of the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra in Lone Tree, Colo.

“I am honored to join the City of Lee’s Summit as cultural arts manager. Investing in the arts by creating a new programmatic area is a monumental occasion for the City. I look forward to working with the Lee’s Summit Arts Council, residents, artists and arts organizations to enhance the City’s cultural and economic vibrancy,” says Masters.

Masters has a bachelor’s degree in music with a concentration in music industry and violin from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. and received a master’s degree in nonprofit management from Regis Jesuit University in Denver, Colo.

“As cultural arts manager, Glenda will be providing essential leadership for coordinating, developing and implementing the City’s Cultural Arts Plan developed in 2007 and updated in 2016. As part of that plan, cultural arts programming and activities will be created that contribute to overall quality of life for our residents, provide learning opportunities and align strategically with our community’s vision and interests,” said Assistant City Manager Mark Dunning. “Glenda’s background in arts administration and her passion for connecting people with arts and culture make her an ideal fit for this role. Please join us in congratulating Glenda as the newly appointed cultural arts manager.”

Masters is relocating to Lee’s Summit from Highlands Ranch, Colo. with her husband and son to be closer to extended family living in the area.
