Sounds at Summit Fair Summer Concert Series

LS ARTS Annual Grant Opportunities

The Lee’s Summit Arts Council (LSAC) appreciates the valuable art programs and services provided by our local arts organizations and citizens. To support the cultural arts in our community the LSAC will accept requests for financial support up to$1000. All requests are subject to the LSAC’s approval. All requests must be at least 90 days in advance of the event. Requests for annual grants must be turned in by August 1. The annual funding request will be reviewed by the LSAC sub-committee. Recommendations will be made and approved by the LSAC at the September at-large meeting. Applicants will be notified by mid-September.

The following criteria will be considered: community impact, demonstrated need for support, creative use of funds, artistic quality, ability to administer and implement project, and the diversity of population served.

  1. Support funds must be used for cultural art events/programs that take place in Lee’s Summit.
  2. Individuals or organizations receiving financial support must provide a post event written report within two months of the conclusion of the event. The report should include the following: final overall financial performance, how many people were served, and all public relations materials with Arts Council logo and name, including photos.
  3. Applicants are required to fill out the online application form for consideration. Any questions regarding the form or submissions may be directed to Tede Price at 816-969-1541 or tprice@cityofls.net.
  4. All approved grants must include the Arts Council logo on ALL marketing materials.

LS Arts Council Call for Artists

Gamber Community Center Exhibitions 2016

The Lee’s Summit Arts Council (LSAC) in partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department invites entries for the 2016 Gamber Community Center juried rotating art exhibit. All media and any subject matter are eligible for consideration. Artists from the Lee’s Summit, Eastern Jackson County and surrounding metropolitan areas, age 18 and older are eligible to submit work. Emerging and career artists are encouraged to submit work. Four(4) artists will be selected to exhibit their artwork for a three-month period in 2016/2017. Artists interested in exhibiting their artwork for the three-month duration may submit their qualifications as directed below for consideration. The deadline for submissions HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO September 15, 2015.

Eligibilty: Artists from the Lee's Summit and the greater metro KC area, ages 18 and older are eligible to submit work. Emerging and career artists are encouraged to apply.

Artist Requirements: Artists are responsible for transportation and installation of their own artwork. All work must be ready for display, securely framed with wires (unless special arrangements are pre-approved). Artwork must be hung at least 24 hours prior to the opening reception. Artwork must be taken down within 48 hours after the closing date of the exhibit. All work must be original. 3-D artists are asked to suggest presentation issues in their artist statement. Artists may review the exhibit space during regular open hours in advance. Artists are advised that the exhibition space is a Parks and Recreation building open to all members of the public, including children, in turn, artists are asked to submit work appropriate to this venue. Winning artists are asked to provide a high resolution image for promotional marketing materials. Artist must have a minimum of 12 pieces to exhibit on display.

Selected Artists will receive the following:

  • Artist Reception, open to the public
  • Opportunity to hold artist demonstration and or lecture

 Promotion of Exhibition:

  • Postcard promoting reception and exhibit will be mailed to LSAC mailing list as well as artist supplied invitation list
  • Additional printed material (including postcard and complementary 11 x  17 posters) will be provided to the artist for distribution at their discretion
  • Press release to local traditional and non-traditional media sources including, but not limited to: The Lee’s Summit Journal, The Kansas City Star, KCMetrolpolis.org, The Pitch, Ink, as well as local and regional organizations including the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council, Summit Art, Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, and ArtsKC
  • Promotion of event through LSAC website, Facebook and “In the Know” eblast

Review Criteria: The submissions will be reviewed and juried by a panel of local art professionals representing a broad spectrum of visual art specialties. The selection criteria include assessment of originality, craftsmanship, and appropriateness for venue as well as a review of supporting documentation including the artist statement.

Sales: All purchase inquiries will be directed to the exhibitor. Work should be marked for sale or NFS (Not For Sale).

Loan Agreement: Artists are required to provide a signed LSAC Loan Agreement Form at delivery of artwork. A loan agreement form is available upon request. Permission to photograph artwork is considered granted unless otherwise stated in writing. The Gamber Center is not liable for theft or damage to artwork.

Submission of Work:

  • Please provide a CD/DVD with five jpegs of recent work and an accompany printed description list
  • Title each jpeg “lastname1jpeg” ex: ross1.jpeg, ross2.jpeg,etc
  • Description list must include title, media, year completed, and size
  • Resume (include contact information, phone, email, mailing address)
  • Cover letter
  • Artist statement (500 words or less)
  • Self-addressed stamped envelope for return of materials, if necessary.

Submission Deadline: EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 15, 2015 by 4:00 pm. All submissions must be received in hand by deadline. Postmarks will not be accepted.
