The Lee's Summit Beautification Commission is a volunteer organization within the Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation Department. The Commission is dedicated to enhancing the overall appearance, environmental awareness and livability of Lee's Summit.
Time to submit your landscaping for the 2013 Lee's Summit Landscape Contest!
Open to all Lee’s Summit residents no matter your level of expertise or size of your garden!
This annual landscape contest is all about how you have helped beautify your property and Lee’s Summit! Show us your potted plants and porches, your winding paths and secret hideaways, or your prized rose gardens or chrysanthemums. Most of all, show us your love of gardening and planting. No matter what type of garden or landscape you have, there is a category for you! Categories include: Front & Back; Front Only; Back Only; Patio/Deck/Container Garden; Water Garden; Subdivision Entrance.
Deadline for entries is JUNE 3, 2013. Interested landscapers can print a registration form here or request a form be mailed or emailed at lspr@cityofls.net or stop by any Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation locations.
Judging will take place June 15 - 16. Results will be announced after August 1 with the presentation of awards taking place at a Lee’s Summit City Council meeting followed by a participant reception. First place winners will receive an attractive yard sign recognizing the winning landscape. Recognition at a City Council meeting, as well as gift certificates from the following sponsors: Countryside Scapes; The Grass Pad; Heartland Nursery; Lowe’s; Rose Hill Gardens; Suburban Lawn and Garden; Westlake on 291; Westlake on Ward Road; Nick’s Greenleaf Nursery; Springtime Garden Center; Van Liew’s Home and Garden; Randy’s Lakeview Nursery; Reiss Earthworks; Keller’s Landscaping.
Landscape Contest Rules: Open to all residents within the Lee’s Summit city limits. Applicants may submit an entry for ONE CATEGORY ONLY. Entries must be postmarked by June 3, 2013. Judges may place entries in a more suitable category at their discretion. The decision of the judges is final. For more information call 816.969.1500.
All gardens and personal property shall be at the risk of the exhibitor. The Beautification Commission shall not be liable for loss or damage from any cause whatsoever. All names and addresses of the winning participants shall become part of the public record and may be included in print media and on the City’s website. Any photos taken of the entries shall remain the property of the City of Lee’s Summit and may be used for promotional purposes.

Adopt-A-Spot
A beautification program sponsored by the Lee’s Summit Beautification Commission. A “Spot” can be your neighborhood, schoolyard, a vacant lot, a traffic circle or any Spot that you are interested in beautifying. Anyone is invited to Adopt-A-Spot including individuals, families, youth groups, faith communities, school clubs, and businesses, to name a few.

Gateway Master Plan
Gateway Master Planning Task Force was formed in 2007 consisting of community leaders, city staff, and business . Study was conducted by the LSBC to introduce concepts for gateway and community entry monumentation throughout Lee’s Summit. The final report and summary was completed in March 2008 and was endorsed by City Council, LS Arts Council, LS Beautification Commission, Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation Board, and Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce.
