Mental Health Court Program
Lee's Summit Mental Health Court cases are referred to the Jackson County Municipal Court.
Mental Health Court is a diversionary program designed to assist defendants diagnosed with mental illness or developmental disabilities.
After an arrest, typically for a non-violent charge, behavior may be evident that indicates a mental illness or incapacity. The Judge may order a screening for the offender, who may then have an opportunity to join the program. Prosecution would then be delayed and the charges ultimately dropped if the offender completes the ordered treatment. Mental Health Court participants are required to meet with counselors, take necessary medications, often look for work and regularly report to the Judge.
