On Thursday, December 1, 2016, at 1211 hours, the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 2517 SE 11th Street. The owner of the house reported to 911 operators that there was smoke in the residence with the smoke alarms sounding and flames visible on the exterior of the house. The caller also stated that the residence was being evacuated.
When the fire department arrived, crews reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the residence. All occupants were accounted for and safe outside.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions on the interior of the structure, and quickly brought the fire under control. Overhaul performed by fire crews confirmed the fire was out. Extensive salvage operations were conducted to assist the residents is saving multiple personal effects and computers. The fire damaged the living room and attic area of the residence.
The fire originated in the framework around the fireplace and spread upward inside the wall to the attic. The exact cause is under investigation.
