Burning Permits
Open burning of trash and vegetation is prohibited by city ordinance and state law.
Brush
The open burning of brush by commercial clearing operations and private residents in agriculturally zoned areas is allowed by permit only. The Lee's Summit Fire Department enforces the requirements of the 2000 International Fire Code and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) for open burning with a permit. A burning permit application may be obtained by calling the Fire Prevention Division at (816) 969-1317 or 969-1316 during regular business hours Monday through Friday, and scheduling an appointment to inspect the burn site. Once the permit is approved, burning is allowed when weather conditions permit.
Recreational and Cooking Fires
Recreational or cooking fires typically are camp type fires with a wood pile not exceeding 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height. Recreational and cooking fires are allowed by permit only. A permit may be obtained by calling the Fire Prevention Division at (816) 969-1317 or 969-1316 during regular business hours Monday through Friday. Requests for recreational fire permits should be made 48 hours in advance to allow for inspection of the site.
Warming Fires at Construction Sites
Warming fires in barrels at construction sites are prohibited.
