Here are some easy, green ways to let your sweetie know that you love them on Valentine's Day without spending a lot of cash or resources (Courtesy of www.bankrate.com):
Take your sweetie hostage. Drop by your loved one's place of work midmorning on the Friday before Valentine's Day. Blindfold your sweetie, usher him/her to your car, and drive off - with their boss's permission, of course. Then, do something fun together - at home or out somewhere local - take your loved one to lunch at their favorite spot or do something romantic at home.
Local weekend for two. While you have your loved one hostage, why not plan a weekend away for the both of you? Take your sweetie to a local bed and breakfast or hotel - somewhere close, but still away from home. Try out a local winery or just spend some quite time together talking or reading.
Create an in-home spa (without remodeling). Your bathroom can be as relaxing as a spa, if you use a little imagination. Just turn down the lights and add as many candles as you can safely. Grab your two fluffiest towels and robes and warm them in the dryer. Turn on some soft music, scatter flower petrals in the bath water, and leave a trail of love notes and flower petals leading from the front door to the new spa.
Dazzle with details. Car details, that is. The less attention your Valentine typically pays to the cleanliness and appearance of their vehicle, the more they'll appreciate this thoughtful gesture. Arrange to skip work the Friday before Valentine's Day long enough to complete the job. You'll also need to feign car trouble or come up with another good reason to borrow your loved one's car for the day. Once he/she's elsewhere, start by filling the gas tank. Then wash, wax and polish the exterior, vacuum the interior and clean the upholstery, overhead and dash. Hang a fresh linen-scented air freshener and go pick up your Valentine.
Candlelight dinner at home. Surprise your loved one with a full-course candlelight dinner at home. If you're an absolute novice in the kitchen, no problem - that makes it even better. Search online for an uncomplicated romantic meal you can prepare for two; spaghetti, tossed salad, garlic bread and a simple dessert. Try to stay away from the typical kid and guy meals though (pizza, steaks, Spaghetti-Os, etc.). Make sure to have your sweetie's favorite beverage ready with candles.
