NEW City Environmental Logo

 (posted on January 05, 2010 16:00)

During September 2009, the City hosted a contest for Lee’s Summit businesses to create a slogan that communicated the importance of Lee’s Summit’s environmental programs to the public in a recognizable and memorable way.  The City’s internal Environmental Steering Committee voted on the winning environmental slogan, “Lee’s Summit:  Make it Green, Keep it Clean,” which was created and submitted by Pet Planet, a local Lee’s Summit business.

From October 15 to November 30, the City hosted another contest, this one open to all Lee’s Summit R-7 High School students, to utilize the winning environmental slogan in the design of a logo that also communicated the importance of Lee’s Summit’s environmental programs to the public in a recognizable and memorable way.  A total of 45 logos were submitted by students from Lee’s Summit High School and Lee’s Summit West High School.  The City’s internal Environmental Steering Committee voted on the winning logo, which was created and submitted by Emily Kraxberger from Lee’s Summit High School.

Beginning in 2010, the winning slogan and logo will be utilized as the City’s new environmental “brand” for promoting the City’s environmental programs, including the waste diversion programs at the City’s Resource Recovery Park, two drop-off recycling centers, downtown recycling program, Household Hazardous Waste program, outdoor classroom that is under construction at the North Recycling Center, rain barrel workshops, electronics recycling events, Public Works Stream Team events, Sweep the Summit events, etc..  This new "brand" will not only be posted on the environmental pages of the City's website, but also on the City's government channel and in the City’s monthly environmental e-newsletter.
