Keep Cool When It's Hot

Admission fees into Legacy Park, Gamber and Harris Park Community Centers will be reduced to half price on all days the National Weather Service issues Excessive Heat Warnings for the months June, July and August. During business hours, Mid-Continent Libraries are also good cooling centers. Call United Way 2-1-1 for assistance or information about public cooling centers.

The City of Lee’s Summit will host a Housing Provider Forum on July 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Howard Conference Room of Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green St. The forum is an opportunity for the community and those who provide housing services to give input on issues related to housing, housing choice and identification of impediments to fair housing choice.

Agencies that provide transitional, emergency, senior, multifamily, temporary and homeless housing are encouraged to attend as well as fair housing advocates, realtors and the general public. During the forum, the City would like to learn from participants how public policies and regulations affect housing choice and their ability to meet housing needs; what are the current housing development patterns and trends; and what can be done to overcome barriers to housing choice.

Participation by housing providers is essential to help the City identify disparities in housing and prepare the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice (AI) report which is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and is a condition for receiving community development funds. A final product of this process will be the establishment of goals and objectives for meaningful actions to combat the issues.

The forum is open to the public but an RSVP is required due to room capacity. To RSVP email planning@cityofls.net or call 816. 969.1600.
