Date/Time Change for City Council Meetings

Beginning on October 2, City Council meetings will be held on Tuesday evenings instead of Thursdays. All meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

The City of Lee’s Summit is hosting a “Meet the Artist” reception featuring the images of local fine art photographer Ric Cummings. This unique opportunity to engage with a local artist will be held on Thursday, April 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall, 220 SE Green St., Lee’s Summit.

Cummings is a fine art photographer specializing in black and white landscapes and cityscapes. His works have been captured over many years of traveling to exotic locations around the world. Through his images, Cummings invites the viewer to travel in their minds to another place and time with both discernable views and abstract objects.

Black and white photography has always been the foremost direction in Cummings’ works. Photographs are taken both on film and digitally. Just as photographic technology has evolved in recent decades, so too has his processing and printing methods. He links past and present as images are adjusted in the computer with the similar intent to what one would do in the darkroom. The final products are pigment prints on rag paper.

“My interest in photography started before college at Purdue University and became a passion while stationed with the Army in northern Italy. A stint at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art as a volunteer in the photography department and study at Johnson County Community College helped refocus my photographic perspective,” Cummings said.

Cummings calls Overland Park, Kansas home and regularly exhibits in galleries and art shows throughout the region. He has owned and operated Black and White Specialties since 1996, an image restoration service in Overland Park, Kansas. Prior to becoming a creative entrepreneur and fine art photographer, Cummings received a bachelor’s degree in institutional management from Purdue University and worked over two decades in the hospitality industry.

The “Meet the Artist” reception is an informal opportunity to view Cummings’ images and learn firsthand about his inspiration and process. Light hors d’oeuvres and wine sampling available. The public is invited to this free event.

Cummings’ work will be on public display at City Hall during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, until July 13, 2018.
