The City of Lee’s Summit is the proud recipient of the “Outstanding Collection Program” award for RecycleFEST from the Missouri Recycling Association (MORA).
Lee’s Summit’s Environmental Programs Manager Kara Taylor accepted the award in September at the MORA annual conference in Springfield, Missouri.
“Lee’s Summit was recognized for being a leader in waste diversion in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The City’s “RecycleFEST,” which debuted in 2014, allows citizens to drop off unusual items for recycling, including bicycles, athletic shoes, wine corks, hearing aids, license plates, pill bottles, keys and cell phones, among numerous other items,” said MORA President Dan Imig.
In addition to RecycleFest, Lee’s Summit also operates a Resource Recovery Park, a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facility, two drop-off recycling centers, an Outdoor EcoClassroom and several waste diversion and environmental outreach programs.
The Missouri Recycling Association (www.mora.org) supports waste reduction and recycling efforts in Missouri by providing information, educational opportunities and technical support in partnership with state, national, and regional organizations. For the third year in a row, MORA partnered with the Composting and Organic Association of Missouri (www.coam.org) for the 2014 conference. Both organizations cooperate on a regional level to share experiences and encourage waste reduction through recycling and composting.
