Beginning on October 2, City Council meetings will be held on Tuesday evenings instead of Thursdays. All meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

City of Lee’s Summit Selects Denise Kelly as Human Resources Director

With more than 15 years of professional human resources experience, the City of Lee’s Summit is pleased to announce the appointment of Denise Kelly as the director of the Human Resources Department for the organization.

Kelly will begin her duties at the City on Friday, August 1.

“I am excited about the opportunity to work for the City of Lee’s Summit and look forward to contributing to the success of the community, and working with a great team of professionals,” said Kelly.

Thank you for the donors who participated in the community-wide blood drive on July 28th!  Another thank you to our partners who made the event a success by advertising the blood drive, providing volunteers, and donating refreshments during the event, including: 

City of Lee’s Summit Selects W. Travis Forbes as Police Chief

After a national search and extensive interviews with staff and community-wide stakeholders, the City of Lee’s Summit proudly announces the selection of W. Travis Forbes as the new police chief.

Forbes will join the City on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 after having served in law enforcement for 22 years for the City of Independence, Missouri, most recently as deputy police chief since 2013.

Pryor Road Shoulders Project Underway

Construction began on July 7, for Phase One of the Pryor Road Shoulders project, which includes shoulder improvements from Hook to Longview Roads in Lee’s Summit. This project was voter approved during the 2013 no-tax increase general obligation bond election. The goals of this project are to improve safety, reduce maintenance costs, and provide “complete streets” along this corridor. 

Community-wide Blood Drive: July 28 from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. in front of City Hall

The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, and the Lee’s Summit Human Services Advisory Board, will host a community blood drive July 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green Street. Visit www.esavealifenow.org and enter the code “cityleessummit” to sign-up for the “CARING … it’s in our blood” event.
