Mayor issues statement about White vs. McKinley case

On July 8, 2010, we publicly stated our concerns regarding the recent court award of $14 Million plus attorney’s fees to Ted White. The court’s decision was against a former employee, Richard McKinley, who was found to have violated the constitutional rights of Mr. White. Anyone who is involved in the legal system understands that any outcome may be possible and that there is no certainty until a final judgment has been ordered.This case was between Ted White and Richard McKinley; the City of Lee’s Summit was not a party in the case. We did not want to interfere with the court proceedings on this matter until they had been fully completed.

City Set to Continue Work of First-Ever Education Summit

Members of the education community and primary stakeholders in the education process have plans to reconvene soon to pick up where the City’s groundbreaking “Education Summit” left off.

City Participates in Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday

The City of Lee’s Summit has announced that certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and other items are exempt from sales taxes from Friday, Aug. 6 - Sunday, Aug. 8. The sales tax holiday applies to state and local sales taxes for local jurisdictions that chose to participate in the holiday. The City of Lee’s Summit began participating the sales tax holiday in August 2007.

Alternate Routes to Kansas from Lee's Summit due to Sinkhole

Several alternate routes are available for motorists to enter Kansas from Westbound I-470 Highway, which was recently closed due to a sinkhole. Typically, motorists would enter Kansas from I-470 via I-435 West. This portion of roadway has been closed by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) until further notice.
