City Water and Sewer Revenue Bonds Upgraded to Aa1 by Moody’s Investors Service

The Lee’s Summit Water Utility’s water and sewer bonds were recently upgraded to Aa1 from Aa2 by Moody’s Investors Service. The new Aa1 rating is assigned to the City’s $2.5 million of rated debt outstanding. Moody’s cited the Water Utility’s “high debt services coverage ratios and healthy liquidity due to strong management practices” as among the factors considered in the rating, noting the “affluent service area wealth indices, stable customer base, and low debt burden.”

Lee’s Summit Mayor Baird Appoints Councilmember Beto Lopez as Mayor Pro Tempore

On Tuesday, April 17, Mayor Bill Baird appointed newly elected District 3 Councilmember Beto Lopez to serve as mayor pro tempore. In accordance with the City of Lee’s Summit Charter, the mayor shall appoint annually, a mayor pro tempore no later than the first regular meeting of the City Council in May.

City Looking for Public Input on Review of Property Maintenance Code

The City of Lee’s Summit is seeking local property owners and tenants to assist and give feedback in the review of the latest update of the City’s Property Maintenance Code. Participation in this project requires a time commitment of one hour per week, for six to eight weeks. Meetings will be held from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green St., and are expected to begin the first week of May.

Public Opportunities to Help the City Shape Its Goals and Policies on Fair Housing

The City of Lee’s Summit will be conducting an Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice (AI) in the next eighteen months, a federal mandate for the Entitlement Communities of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs. Community participation will be sought by the City to better understand the issues related to housing, housing choice and overall quality of life of its citizens in order to draft future goals and policies to address identified impediments to fair housing choice.

City of Lee’s Summit’s ‘Meet the Artist’ Event Featuring Ric Cummings

The City of Lee’s Summit is hosting a “Meet the Artist” reception featuring the images of local fine art photographer Ric Cummings. This unique opportunity to engage with a local artist will be held on Thursday, April 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall, 220 SE Green St., Lee’s Summit.
