Beginning on October 2, City Council meetings will be held on Tuesday evenings instead of Thursdays. All meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

Sign-up for the Citizens Leadership Academy by the December 11, 2015 Deadline

The City of Lee’s Summit is accepting applications for the 2016 class of the “Citizens Leadership Academy.” The academy is free and open to Lee’s Summit residents who want to gain better insight into the operations of City government as well as to prepare for greater involvement in community leadership.

The program will be interactive and City staff will work with the participants to answer questions and to guide them through the municipal process. There will be room for 18 participants, including three high school seniors nominated by either a school principal or counselor.

City Hosts International Fellows from Cambodia and the Philippines

The City of Lee’s Summit is hosting international fellows for the second time this year. Sokgech Heng of Cambodia and Farrah Inihao of the Philippines, both are participants in the U.S. Department of State-sponsored Professional Fellows Program. The exchange has been arranged by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), the organization that develops and advances professional local government management worldwide. They arrived in Lee’s Summit on Oct. 10 and will be staying in the community until Nov. 7.  

Founder’s Day Party on the Patio, Unveiling of Sesquicentennial Time Capsule Sculpture

Truly 150 invites the community to the second to last Lee’s Summit Sesquicentennial celebration event, Founder’s Day Party on the Patio.  The event will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at City Hall Plaza, 220 SE Green St., and will feature food, drinks, music and more.

Chat with Local Artist Shane Miller October 15 as He Paints Live at City Hall

Meet local artist Shane Miller on Thursday, October 15 from 5:30 - 7 p.m., in the lobby of Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green St., and get a chance to view his paintings.  You will also experience Miller painting a new art piece live in City Hall while enjoying light hors d’oeuvres and wine sampling compliments of the Longview Mansion Executive Chef.

Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport Earthwork Groundbreaking Event: 2 p.m. Fri., Oct. 9

In celebration of the kick-off to the runway improvements at the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport, the City will host a groundbreaking event at 2 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 9, at the airport’s east ramp located at Hagen and Leinweber roads in Lee’s Summit. KC Flight Formation Team will perform at 2 p.m.
