Google Fiber Construction in Lee’s Summit

The construction of the Google Fiber network is underway and will continue, weather permitting.

Residents can expect to see Google subcontractors working within the City’s right-of-way and utility easements. As is typical with underground utility work of this scale, digging could be required in your area. Residents should receive door hangars from Google Fiber prior to construction activity beginning in their neighborhood.

A timeline for Google Fiber residential service availability is not yet available, but is expected to start sometime in 2015. Click the read more for FAQ's and important contact numbers.

City’s Newly Elected Mayor Pro Tempore is Councilmember Diane Forte

The Lee’s Summit City Council elected District 1 Councilmember Diane Forte as the new Mayor Pro Tempore at their May 7 City Council meeting held in Lee’s Summit City Hall. Annually, the Council elects this individual from among its members.

City Hall among Facilities Closed in Observance of Memorial Day – May 25

Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green St., will be closed on Mon., May 25, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. The following City facilities will be either closed or have reduced hours of operation as a result of the holiday:

Seeking 2,000 Hands to Save Lives: Learn CPR for Free

Knowing how and when to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR could mean the difference between life and death during an emergency. In an effort to train 1,000 Lee’s Summit residents in this life-saving procedure, the Lee’s Summit Health Education Advisory Board (HEAB) is offering a free, Hands-Only™ CPR training being held from 9 to 11:45 a.m. on Sat., June 6, at Harris Park Community Center, 110 SE Blue Parkway, Lee’s Summit. Participants (ages 12 and up)  can choose from three, 45-minute sessions beginning at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11 a.m. Registration is preferred and is available online for Hands-Only™ CPR training or by calling (816) 969-1540.

CARING … it’s in our blood! City Hosts Successful Spring Blood Drive

Thank you Lee’s Summit for donating 27 units of blood during the Spring Blood Drive held on Monday, May 11, in front of Lee’s Summit City Hall. Because of your blood donation, local hospitals, including those in our community, will receive the supply to help save lives.

Solid Waste Update & Online Citizen Survey

During its March 12 meeting, the City Council directed staff to execute a contract with ETC Institute to complete a solid waste citizen survey regarding continuation of the City’s environmental programming after the City’s municipal landfill closes.  The landfill is currently expected to reach its permitted capacity in late 2017 or early 2018.  The City’s ancillary environmental programs such as yard waste, compost, mulch, drop-off recycling centers, Household Hazardous Waste, RecycleFEST, Stream Team, and more are financially supported by landfill tipping fees.  When the landfill closes, the revenue source for the City’s environmental programs will discontinue.
