Mission Statement

The Lee’s Summit Public Works Department is dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of the community through environmentally and economically sound infrastructure preservation and growth while providing outstanding service to our customers.

Summary

As part of the Public Works Department, the Solid Waste Division is responsible for providing environmental services through the operation of the municipal landfill where yard waste, mulch, and compost are processed; the drop-off Recycling Centers where glass, paper, aluminum, tin, cardboard, and plastic recycling is offered; and the Household Hazardous Waste facility where residents can make appointments to properly dispose of their unwanted paint, oil, antifreeze, and other such household hazardous wastes.

The Solid Waste Division is also responsible for the numerous environmental events that are offered throughout the year, such as Stream Team, Paper Shredding, and Bicycle Recycling. For more information on our events and services please visit the Environment page of the website.
