ITS aids all City departments in capturing, recording, and reporting information needed to serve the community. ITS is also responsible for the technology and automation that allows City departments to share information and to communicate effectively.
ITS is responsible for the operations of a computer network consisting of two mid-range computers, 47 file servers, and the city-wide telephone system. This network has approximately 900 devices attached. The ITS department also supports and maintains approximately 525 personal computers and defines standards for hardware and software. Additionally, ITS is responsible for coordinating and providing training on these products.
ITS installs and supports all applications residing on the computer network. Those applications include: utility billing system; police records and computer aided dispatch; fire records and computer aided dispatch; the City's financial system; the City's payroll; a customer service system; pavement management; and a development tracking system. Implementation of a Geographic Information System (GIS) is complete, which will enhance the project management tools available to departments.
ITS works with city departments to set the information technology strategy for Lee's Summit. Outside consultants have assisted in the strategic planning process by providing an Information Technology Assessment (pdf 2.6MB). ITS and city departments maintain Lee's Summit's Information Technology Strategic Plan (pdf 2.5MB). The most recent status update on strategic plan goals was prepared in September, 2009. The intent of the technology plan is to ensure that the defined projects and technology initiatives are aligned with the overall IT goals and supportive of general business goals of the City.
