City Crews Preparing for Snow Late Tonight, Saturday, Jan. 13, and Overnight into Sunday, Jan. 14; More Snow Expected Monday, Jan. 15

City crews are preparing for the potential of snow beginning late tonight, Saturday, Jan. 13, and into Sunday, Jan. 14. There's also potential for more snow on Monday, Jan. 15. Crews are scheduled around the clock tonight, Saturday, Jan. 13, through early morning on Tuesday, Jan. 16. The City will continue to monitor the forecast and update its response accordingly.

 

Additional updates will be posted at LSsnow.net, and the City of Lee’s Summit’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Residents also are encouraged to stay up-to-date on weather information by listening to local newscasts.

City Crews Preparing for Slick Conditions During Morning Commute on Thursday, Jan. 11

City crews are scheduled to treat roadways before, during and after a winter storm scheduled to move through the area beginning Thursday, Jan. 11. The storm is expected to begin as rain, and as a cold front moves through the area and temperatures drop rapidly, rain-saturated roadways are expected to freeze. Slick conditions can be expected for the morning commute, and freezing rain, sleet and snow are all possible throughout the morning. While low ice/snow totals are expected, low temperatures will limit the effectiveness of de-icing materials.

City of Lee’s Summit’s ‘Meet the Artist’ Event Featuring Eric Doucette

The City of Lee’s Summit is hosting a “Meet the Artist” event featuring the work of local artist Eric Doucette. This unique opportunity to engage with a local artist will be held on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall, 220 SE Green St., Lee’s Summit.

Lee’s Summit’s Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

The City of Lee’s Summit’s Human Relations Commission is pleased to present “United in the Journey”, a celebration honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This free community-wide event will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 6 p.m. in The Pavilion at John Knox Village, 520 NW Murray Road, Lee’s Summit.

Craig Gentry Named City of Lee’s Summit’s Employee of the Year

Craig Gentry, web administrator for Information Technology Services at City Hall, was recognized Dec. 21 as the City of Lee’s Summit’s 2017 Employee of the Year. City Manager Steve Arbo announced the selection at the annual employee meeting.
