Second Amended Charter

While the Charter as a whole was adopted immediately upon the citizens’ vote, there were two areas where later effective dates were included in the recommendations: 

·      Section 3.13.  Legislative Procedures, subsections (e) and (f), regarding the reading and approval of ordinances, to be effective July 1, 2017; and,

·      Chapter 4. Mayor, to be effective after the April 2018 election for Mayor. 

In the following Charter, changes to these sections are shown in red, with a footnote containing an explanation.  The Charter will be updated again after each of the two effective dates.

Lee’s Summit Road Open to Through Traffic

Lee’s Summit Road re-opened to through traffic as of Tuesday, July 12, and all detour signage has been removed. Construction will continue along Lee’s Summit Road as the contractor completes phases 3 and 4 of the project. Drivers are reminded to use caution as the corridor is still an active work zone.

Features of City’s New Digital Legislative Information Center Unveiled

The City of Lee’s Summit’s new innovative, digital Legislative Information Center officially launched on Sun., May 1, to provide easier online access to agendas, minutes and videos for meetings of the City Council, Committees, Boards and Commissions. Lee's Summit is a Purple Heart City

On Tues., March 29, the City received the Military Order of the Purple Heart Special Recognition plaque for dedication and support honoring America’s combat wounded veterans from the Patriot Members of the Department of Missouri Military Order of the Purple Heart, USA. Upon receiving this prestigious award, Lee’s Summit is now among 107 cities designated as a “Purple Heart City.”

Text to 9-1-1 service is now available in the nine-county Kansas City metro area.

All 44 public safety answering points in the nine counties served by the Mid-America Regional Council can now accept texts. This includes Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte and Ray counties in Missouri and Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami and Wyandotte counties in Kansas.
