The City of Lee’s Summit welcomes and encourages citizens and businesses to be involved in our local government. Not only is the City guided by its elected officials, but we have also been privileged to have Strategic Planning Committees who have made recommendations to the future of our community. Many of their recommendations resulted in the need for various volunteer Boards and Commissions that meet on a regular basis. Those Boards and Commissions have been broken into the categories below:
- Community, Arts & Culture, and Recreation related Boards and Commissions
Arts Council, Beautification Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, LS360 Implementation Committee, Livable Streets Advisory Board, Parks & Recreation Board
- Economic Development & Finance related Boards & Commissions
Industrial Development Authority, Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority (LCRA), LS Missouri Municipal Building Authority, Inc., License Tax Review Committee, Tax Increment Financing Commission, Water Tap Fee Review Committee
- Health & Human Services and Human Rights related Boards and Commissions
Health Education Advisory Board, Human Relations Commission, Human Services Advisory Board
- Planning and Code Enforcement related Boards and Commission
Board of Appeals, Board of Zoning Adjustments, Charter Review Commission, Jackson County Board of Equalization, Planning Commission
- Other Boards and Commissions
Board of Aeronautic Commissioners, Public Safety Advisory Board, Railroad Task Force, Redistricting Committee
Members of the Boards and Commissions are appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council. To be considered for an appointment, complete an interest form and select the boards and committees that you are interesting in serving. When there is an opening on a committee, or a new committee is formed, the Mayor reviews the interest forms and makes recommendations to the City Council. The terms and frequency of meetings for the boards and committees vary.
