Online Crime Mapping

Lee's Summit residents have a new and free tool to map and analyze crime activity in their neighborhood an community.  Crime data for Lee's Summit is displayed through the Web site RAIDS Online: www.raidsonline.com

RAIDS stands for Regional Analysis and Information Data Sharing. The free Web site provides crime data which users can search, filter and analyze via an interactive dashboard. Residents also can sign up for alerts about criminal activity occurring in their neighborhood. Bair Software offers RAIDS Online as a service to law enforcement and Lee’s Summit is the first department in Missouri to participate. RAIDS Online syncs with the Lee’s Summit Police Department records system to automatically upload crime information and keep it updated on the map, a big plus for community members.

Advanced features are available for those who want to break the information down. For instance, users can filter the map by date range and crime type. They can view analytical layers such as a hot spot or call density map, which recalculates based on the criteria entered. Ratchet up the research a little more and a user can get a look at things like temporal topology? That is, what days of the week or hours of those days tend to see spikes or lulls in crime? The site allows for an archive of two years of information but does limit the map to five-hundred calls listed or shown at a time.

Interested residents may find information by the RAIDS online web site listed above or by links placed on the Lee’s Summit City Web site: www.cityofls.net.
