Meet Local Award-winning Photographer Michael Russell at City Hall

Meet well-known and local photographer, Michael Russell from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on July 20 at City Hall.  Visit Russell as you view his photographs from around the world.

Russell is a local, award-winning wildlife and nature photographer who also teaches photography workshops throughout the United States. He holds three college degrees: an Education Specialist, a Master of Arts in Teaching, as well as a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri.

Russell enjoys working with both film and digital cameras. He says lighting is a key factor in creating successful images. He spends hours to capture the vibrancy and texture of his subjects.

“I’m so honored to be exhibiting my work at City Hall in Lee’s Summit!” Russell said. “My photography takes me all over the country and across the world, but I am proud to call Lee’s Summit my home. When I travel, I love to tell people about what a fantastic community Lee’s Summit is. To have some of my artwork hanging in City Hall, in downtown Lee’s Summit, makes me feel even more a part of this wonderful community.”

His photographs have been featured in publications, books, and calendars on five continents. In the past year his work has been published in Japan, France, Australia, Austria, Colombia, Korea, Russia, and extensively throughout North America.  Russell’s digital portfolio is exclusively licensed by Getty Images.

Russell is currently working to complete two coffee table books. The first, titled “Greetings from Kansas City, Missouri” is a tribute to his hometown. The second, tentatively titled “America’s National Parks” features nearly 75 national park properties across the lower 48 states.

Light refreshments and wine sampling will be available during the Meet the Artist Reception. Russell’s artwork will be on display in the lobby of City Hall until mid October during regular hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To view more artwork, visit www.michaelrussellphotography.com
